Bright and energetic 7 year old who has Cerebral Palsy

Nazareth (Naz) is a bright, energetic 7 year old who has Cerebral Palsy. His diagnosis means he is physically impaired and unable to sit or stand independently, and he experiences involuntary and unpredictable movements.

Naz was referred to us by the Choice, Passion, Life (formerly know as Cerebral Palsy League of Queensland). He is the youngest of four children. Naz’s father works full-time and his mother has a part-time job and cares for Naz.

Nazareth found it difficult to stabilise his body to allow him to play with toys, relax, watch television or join his friends and siblings in social interaction at home. The family had successfully trialled a hi-low activity chair, which offered a comfortable and well-supported alternative to his wheelchair. The unique adjustable hi-lo base meant he would be able to join his family up at the table at mealtime, and, after adjustment, then play at eye level with friends and siblings, helping to develop essential social skills.

The cost of the hi-low chair was $6,189 with $3,000 contributed by Aussie Kidz Charity. The balance of the chair’s cost was given by another funder and the family.

Since receiving his new chair, Nazareth has been enjoying the additional support for his upper limbs, particularly when he is playing with toys, looking at books, or his favourite pastime – playing with an iPad!
